Now that we have covered exams, we will begin to explore the other type off appointments you will encounter as an OA. These appointments are collectively known as Intermediates, and are non-exam appointments, typically scheduled in 15 minute slots, that are due to a specific condition or circumstance that requires the patient to be seen prior to their next annual exam. They still have several elements from the full exam (they begin with a workup, they involve scribing), but because of their shorter time slot, they are much more problem focused in contrast to the more comprehensive exam. There are a lot of different types of intermediates that you will need to become familiar with; however, they can be grouped into several families to make them easier to understand and remember: Myopia Management, Post-ops, Contact Lens, Dry Eye, Glaucoma, Emergencies, and Color Vision Clinic. We will go through each of these families in the modules below.
