In this module, we are going to talk about what to do with walk in patients while you are working at the front desk. Currently, we are asking ALL patients to schedule an appointment with us, even if they are not seeing a doctor. Walk in patients may be coming into the office to pay a bill, pick out eyewear, pick UP eyewear, etc. We still call these patients “walk ins” because previously they could just arrive at any time and we would assist them, but since the pandemic, we have switched to scheduling these types of appointments on the WALK IN schedule.
how to schedule a walk in patient
When a patient calls in and wants to schedule an appointment to pick up their glasses, order new glasses, or any other type of visit that is NOT an actual appointment type, let them know that we are so happy to help them, and when would they like to come in? Pull up the walk in schedule at the office they prefer (there is a walk in schedule DAILY at each office location), and find a time that works best for the patient. Once you find that time, simply click on the appointment time just like you would for any other appointment and fill out the patient’s name, change the appointment reason to “WALK IN”, and add notes of what they are coming in for (pick up eyewear/initials or eyewear selection/initials). Save the appointment and you are done!
